MMGM:WHEN THE BUTTERFLIES CAME by Kimberley Griffiths Little

Marvelous Middle Grade Monday is a meme started by Shannon Messenger to celebrate middle grade books. This week I’m looking at WHEN THE BUTTERFLIES CAME by Kimberley Griffiths Little

When the Butterflies CameIt’s about Tara Doucet and her sister Riley Doucet who find a set of keys that lead to great adventures with magic butterflies, and a search for the truth about their grandmother’s death.

Here’s what Goodreads says:

Everybody thinks Tara Doucet has the perfect life. But in reality, Tara’s life is anything but perfect: Her dear Grammy Claire has just passed away, her mother is depressed and distant, and she and her sister Riley can’t seem to agree on anything. But when mysterious and dazzling butterflies begin to follow her around after Grammy Claire’s funeral, Tara just knows in her heart that her grandmother has left her one final mystery to solve.

A strange butler brings Tara and Riley to Grammy Claire’s house, where Tara finds a stack of keys and detailed letters from Grammy Claire herself. Note by note, Tara learns unexpected truths about her grandmother’s life. As the letters grow more ominous and the clues more difficult to decipher, Tara realizes that the secrets she must uncover could lead to mortal danger. And when Tara and Riley are swept away to the beautiful islands of Chuuk to hear their grandmother’s will, Tara discovers the most shocking truth of all — one that will change her life forever.

My favorite character in this book was Tara Doucet because she was the hero who saves the butterflies because they are in danger. I liked this book because it makes you feel more protective to butterflies. It can be a scary but it’s also cool. You should read this book because it makes you feel good about butterflies so you do not squash them because they have feelings too.

WHEN THE BUTTERFLIES CAME will be published by Scholastic on April 1st. No fooling! Mom got an ARC of this at ALA.

MMGM:Lawless by Jeffrey Salane

Marvelous Middle Grade Monday is a meme started by Shannon Messenger to celebrate middle grade books. This week I’m looking at LAWLESS by Jeffrey Salane

If I could give this book a grade I would give it an A+. It was a bit slow to start because I didin’t really get it. The characters in this book are really cool.

I would recommend this book to my friends because it’s very exciting, scary and sometimes confusing. It’s difficult to read but I liked it!

The best part was when M tried to steal the painting, Jacob De Gheyn 3 and she almost got caught.

I would change when M loses the painting in the lake. I would have her break it by accident. I think you should know that it is interesting, funny, scary and confusing. Also here’s what Goodreads has to say about it:

The Lawless School provides the right education for kids on the wrong side of the law.

M Freeman has been homeschooled her entire life. So M has no idea just how unusual her education has been – not until she leaves home to attend the prestigious (and mysterious) Lawless School.

Suddenly, it’s very clear to M that her tutors have been preparing her all along for a life of crime. She excels at escape tactics. She’s a whiz at spotting forgeries. Her years of piano lessons pay off when picking pockets and cracking safes.

M’s newfound talent for criminal mischief soon brings her to the attention of the Masters, the secretive school’s most secretive clique. M’s interest in the Masters is personal – joining this international dishonor society is her best chance to learn the truth about her father’s life . . . and his death. But when her first real-world heist goes wrong, M is left wondering: Is there truly honor among thieves?

LAWLESS will be published in April 2013 from Scholastic! YAY!!

My Sister the Vampire:Switched by Sienna Mercer

Today I will be reviewing My Sister the Vampire:Switched by Sienna Mercer. this is what Goodreads says about it!

When Olivia Abbott moves to town, she’s excited to join the cheerleading team and make new friends. Then she meets Ivy Vega. At first, Ivy, pale and dressed all in black, looks like Olivia’s opposite. Then the girls look beyond the glittery pink blush and thick black eyeliner to discover they’re identical–identical twins!Olivia and Ivy are brimming with plans to switch places and pull every twin trick in the book. But Olivia soon discovers that she and Ivy aren’t exactly the same. Ivy’s a vampire. And she’s not the only one in town.

So as you can see this is the first book in the series of My Sister the Vampire. There are at least 12 books in the series. I liked it because I like vampires. And it’s full of surprises!! I really liked it when Ivy (who is a vampire)tells Olivia(who is not a vampire)that she is a vampire!:)

It’s exciting and interesting.I thought that having a vampire sister would be AMAZING! Because a vampire drinks blood but not human or animal blood ,artificial blood because they have not bitten people or animals in centuries! Because they say that drinking blood would be gross! And it would risk exposing vampires!:( So read it!

SISTERS 8 by Lauren Baratz-Logsted, Greg Logsted and Jackie Logsted.

This series is very awesome. READ IT. The author is Lauren Baratz-Logsted with Greg Logsted and Jackie Logsted. Jackie Logsted is the daughter of Lauren and Greg.

It’s about eight sisters whose parents disappear on New Year’s Eve and each of the eight has to discover her gift and her power each month, starting in January and ending in August. Here are the Eights: Annie, Durinda, Georgia, Jackie, Marissa, Petal, Rebecca, and Zinnia. They each have a cat. The cats are Zither, Anthrax, Dandruff, Greatorex, Jaguar, Minx, Precious and Rambunctious.

Annie takes care of the house. Durinda cooks.  Georgia can be annoying. Jackie is the fastest. Marissa is the sensible one. Petal always worries. Rebecca has lots of energy and Zinnia thinks she can talk to cats. There is a loose stone in the drawing room where they find the first note. They find one note each time one of the eights finds her gift or her power. The first note said that “you have to each find your gift and your power and when the last eight finds her gift or her power you will start to find out what happened to your parents.”

I like this series because it’s a mystery and I like mysteries. I read them really fast and then I got sad because I finished them already. And now I need to read a new series like the 39 Clues.

Lost Girls Chapter Book #1 (Disney Fairies)This week I’m choosing a book for “I can’t wait to read” and it’s called Never Girls #1: In a Blink by Kiki Thorpe. Here’s what Goodreads says about it: The smell of salt water, a gust of seabreeze, and the bell-like ringing of a fairy’s laugh are the only hints that something magical is happening to Kate, Mia, Lainey, and Gabby. In a blink of an eye, the four friends are whisked out of their ordinary lives to the most wonderful place of all–Never Land, home to fairies, mermaids . . . and now four lost girls. The girls don’t want to leave right away, but Queen Clarion and Tinker Bell have figured out a way for them to get home. Will Kate, Mia, Lainey, and Gabby’s fantastic adventure end before it’s barely begun?

I’m going to look for it at the library.
